When and how to wear jewellery.

Wearing antique jewellery is a matter of lifestyle and elegance. The jewellery you wear tells a lot about your style of life, and about your character. It indicates what social class you belong to. That is why you should be very careful when making decision as to what to buy and wear.

It is obvious, that antique jewellery clashes with shoes and a T-shirt. But if you follow some general rules, you can wear jewellery from morning till late evening. A businesswoman in a suit should not choose to wear a necklace inlaid with diamonds (especially if it is only afternoon). But the same necklace goes perfectly with a smart evening dress. Not surprisingly, a tasteful, elegant brooch set with diamonds and other precious stones or a patinas Art-Deco ring, can be worn every day.

Another factor you have to consider when deciding what kind of jewellery to wear, is the time when the jewel was created. An Art-Deco platinum necklace with geometrically styled diamonds, for example, should not be worn together with an Art Nouveau golden bracelet with enamel inspired by the art of ancient Egypt. It is completely unacceptable to match antique jewellery with imitations or artificial jewellery, even though it appears to be considered smart nowadays.

On the Polish antique market, jewellery from the period between WWI and WWII, as well as Russian and Austro - Hungarian from XIXth century, is enjoying great popularity. These products are very often made of gold combined with silver, platinum and white gold. Diamonds were frequently set in white gold. This kind of jewellery is not difficult to match. It is possible, for example, to combine a necklace made of gold and platinum ring. Still, there is one "but", their style and form must be similar.

The most desirable and exciting kind of jewellery is ancestral jewellery, provided that a set has been maintained and that it is not damaged. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to come by. Sometimes it may take years to find and buy the missing elements of a set. Sometimes it may even prove impossible. Therefore, it is always safer to seek advice from a well-reputed antique boutique.

When discussing jewellery, one item cannot be forgotten: a watch. This is very important element of an outfit. Its applications is not only practical but also decorative. There are different forms and shapes of watches (different sizes, materials they are made of, different shapes of faces). There some general rules applying to watches. Sports watches, for example, should not be worn with smart evening dresses (in which situation it is advisable to choose a watch of beautiful shape, and to make sure that it goes well with the pieces of jewellery).

The magic glitter of antique jewellery is undoubtedly unique. It may be a reason for pride and satisfaction, as it is a synonym of luxury, class and style. Most importantly of all, it ennobles.
